What BETA means for your books

We put the word beside our name on purpose. What it means — and does not mean — for anyone thinking of keeping real books in GintiDesk right now.

GintiDesk is in testing, and the word BETA sits next to the logo so nobody has to find that out later. Accounting software is trusted with figures that go to the department and to a bank; being clear about what it is today matters more than looking finished.

What that does not mean

It does not mean the arithmetic is approximate. Double entry either balances or it does not: every voucher balances, the trial balance ties, the Balance Sheet ties, and each document reconciles to the ledger it posted. Those are properties we test rather than hope for.

What it does mean

  • Some modules have been built and not yet used in real businesses for long — payroll and manufacturing among them.
  • Reports are being checked one at a time against the books, and we fix what does not tie.
  • Wording, columns and screens still change where a real user tells us they read wrongly.
  • Some things are announced and not built yet. Filing GST returns from inside the software is one; the page says "coming soon" wherever that is so.

What we ask of you

Keep your books properly and check the statements you would check anyway — the trial balance, the GST returns against the registers, the outstanding against the party ledgers. If a figure looks wrong, tell us with the document number. A reported figure that disagrees with its own ledger is the most useful message we can get, and it gets looked at the same day.

What you can rely on meanwhile

  • A 14-day free trial with no card, so the software can be judged on your own data before any payment.
  • No automatic renewal: a further period is charged only when you choose to pay for it.
  • A named Grievance Officer, and a complaint form that gives a reference number on the spot.
Export your data whenever you like. Books you cannot take out of a system are not really yours, in testing or out of it.
